Hayward Library & Community Learning Center

The three-story, 58,000-square-foot library and neighboring Heritage Plaza—with its central lawn, hard-scape gathering spaces, walkways, benches, gardens and arboretum of 40 species of rare and mature trees in the heart of downtown Hayward represents years of work on the part of City officials, library staff and the Friends of the Library, as well as the design and construction team.

  • Porous paving is used to maximum extent, multipurpose turf area is reduced with incorporation of porous paving material to serve any maintenance and event planning needs.

  • Centralized computer-controlled irrigation system.

  • Site furnishings used recycled materials.

  • Saves 488,520 gallons of water per year and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 25.96 tons of C02E over the life of the project.
