ReScape California is presenting a series of conversations with experts who will discuss regenerative landscaping practices that address the climate issues of our time. We invite landscape professionals, home gardeners, municipalities and YOU to be a part of this conversation and help us create community-based solutions.
CEU’s available for ReScape, the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD), and the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).
As California’s population and temperatures continue to grow, so does the likelihood of wildfires. The ten most costly wildfires in U.S. history have all occurred in California—and the top 5 within the last 2 years. Join Douglas Kent, author of Firescaping, as he highlights the essential qualities of a protected property and community. Doug will be focusing on roads, structures, defensible space, outlying areas and community obligations.
Doug is seasoned, professional and impassioned and his presentations are dynamic, educational and inspiring. He has been working to create fire safe properties and communities since 1993 and has written the best-selling book on landscaping for fire protection, produced articles for newspapers and magazines, and led landscape projects and education efforts throughout the state. Doug started gardening 40 years ago. He has two master degrees in land management, has written five other books, and has led three other statewide public education campaigns. Doug teaches at California Polytechnic University, Pomona, within the departments of Landscape Architecture and Regenerative Studies. Kent’s work has been featured in Fine Gardening, Sunset Magazine, HGTV, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, National Wildlife, Press Democrat, CNN Comcast, and many others. A new edition of Doug’s book, Firescaping, will be available later this year.
